The communique issued by South East Governor’s Forum at the end of its’ meeting held on Saturday, the 31st day of August, 2019, at the executive council Chambers, Lion building, government house Enugu contained some agreements.
Two of the agreements were seen as a welcomed development by many but a critical review uncovered it could actually be the beginning of the implementation of RUGA.
I want us to look once again at the words concerning herdsmen as contained in the communique issued by South East Governors for a better comprehension.
1. Restrain foot movement of herdsmen and their cattle from one state to another. &
2. Restrain movement of herdsmen and their cattle from community to community across farmlands.
Restrain according to Merriam Webster Dictionary means:
to prevent (a person or animal) from doing something
: to prevent (a person or animal) from moving by using physical force
: to keep (something) under control
From the above meanings we need to think.. South East Governors have ulterior motives.
Restraining herdsmen from moving from state to state automatically confines them to a fixed location. They made the above statements to divert the attention of the public from their next line of action.
They should only be applauded when they ban herdsmen from forcefully taking over/settling on lands belonging to various communities without legally acquiring them.
The Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) also reacted to South East Governors denying knowing or having anything to do with Python Dance 2.
He pointed out that if actually they knew nothing about it, they wouldn’t have proscribed IPOB immediately after the military exercise.
People believe South East Governors lately are trying to live up to what is expected of them after Sen. Ike Ekweremmadu was attacked in Germany for not representing the interest of his people well.
However, they need to be careful as anything short of what is expected of them will be resisted by the people.
