“There’s nothing GREAT about the word JACKSONITE; it’s the Jacksonites per say that makes it great and until they make it great, it remains just a word” – C. Daiv
With the above quote in mind I want to engage our cognitive domain for some minutes and inoculate us on what is to come if we don’t wake up from slumber
It’s no longer news that Mass Communication Departmental election is around the corner. The saints are matching on once again; bombarding the cyber space with broadcasts and taking the gospel offline from house to house.. Meeting people they believe will help their political ambitions and doing a lot more with just one ultimate destination in mind….MASCA TOP SEATS!
🔳 THE FIGHT FOR MASCA TOP SEATS:
“To vote right; you need to think right” – C. Daiv
It’s disheartening that most of us do things because of who is involved and not because of what we intend to achieve
The positions of MASCA president and vice president are very vital to department of mass communication as they represents us in FASA and other places Electing someone based on proximity and interests is tantamount to putting the future of our dear department on the line
FASA and other departments will start respecting us if we think right, vote right and install the right person who will fight, overhaul and reposition department of Mass Communication
◾ HOW DO WE GET IT RIGHT?
▪ DON’T VOTE BECAUSE SOMEONE IS YOUR FRIEND;
it’s funny and unfortunate some persons are moving from one person to another, establishing emergency friendship just because of MASCA top seats.
Making friends is not bad but a serious fellow will rather convince you with points than going through the gate way of politically motivated friendship
▪ DON’T VOTE BECAUSE SOMEONE IS YOUR ENEMY:
For us to get it right, we need to put away how or whatever we feel for someone as it has nothing to do with his or her ability to deliver.
“A leader shouldn’t be a friend to all and must not be loved by all but must serve all.” – C. Daiv
▪ GO FOR A PRINCIPLED FELLOW:
To get it right you need to observe the life of the individual you’re supporting and the life of those supporting the said individual.. “birds of same feather will always flock together”
The incoming MASCA president and vice president must be principled, they must possess a clearly defined boundary and also have self control.
Any individual that can associate with everyone irrespective of their bad behaviors or attitude is bad for MASCA president or vice president
▪ WE NEED SOMEONE WHO IS SPIRITUALLY INCLINED:
Great leaders are spiritually inclined. Being spiritually inclined will make you not to be porous. No womanizer will make a good leader. No party or always fun loving individual will make a good leader. Leaders are visionary individuals and thus need less distractions
▪ GO FOR REAL INDIVIDUALS:
This is a bit confusing but from experience those individuals that don’t need to become your friend before they convince you in most cases is the right person for the job. Those who always come around, chatting you up, asking if you have eaten and in some cases buy you snacks, and play other games aimed at buying your conscience over are fake individuals. When elected they end up becoming opposite of what they have been
▪ THE LIFESTYLE OF THOSE SUPPORTING AN INDIVIDUAL FROM YOUR CLASS:
Not all can be bought, not all can be bamboozled, not all can be intellectually outsmarted.. Sweet words/emotional speeches don’t work on some individuals. Some persons can detect covert behaviors and at such.. Opinions of individuals you believe in can help especially when you are at cross roads and don’t know who to vote for.
▪ THE BEHAVIORS OF THE CANDIDATES PRIOR TO ELECTION
This is a very important factor to consider before voting anyone into office
I have seen people complain of their representatives not giving them a listening ear, being rude, arrogant and in most cases don’t want to have anything to do with those who elected them into office and I have this to say…
These people coming for our votes are not ghosts; we know them and how they behave before now and at such, it’s expected of us to consider who they were before coming out for various positions to avoid complaining afterwards
“Power MAKES good people become better, it MAKES bad people become worst; POWER MAKES PEOPLE” – C. Daiv
▪ HOW DESPERATE THE CANDIDATES ARE
From experience, those who are too desperate for a specific position have ulterior motives, either to water down their ego, get back at someone using the said position or serve their own interests
BUT Those individuals who the masses compels to take up a given responsibility, actually represents the masses and tend to perform better. (I stand to be corrected)
The inference is; A visionary MASCA president and vice president will overhaul and reposition Department of Mass Communication in the league of other departments, FASA and University of Nigeria at large.
